Welcome to my blog page.

29th March 2008.

Mostly Pastels Sale!!!!!!!!!!

I am clearing out my stores and have some reduced price prints available. These are framed prints which are available on a first-come basis and not repeatable at this price. Its simply that storage and these prints were framed for a show which was cancelled. Other items will be added in the next week or so.

Obviously some of the prints are available mounted/matted as usual.

Please bear in mind that the photos in the shop are not done under ideal conditions if they are of framed pieces due to reflection issues. These pictures are simply there to show the whole presentation.  For a true indication of the actual print please look in the gallery.

More work will appear this week.

Specifically a picture of Honfleur and a beach scene. I will also be making a (very) limited edition of the Red Riding Hood picture. However I do intend to sell the original too.

10 March 2008

A very rainy and grey day today meant it rather damped the spirits as I sat in my Summerhouse. All I could hear was the drips from the trees onto the roof and the more persistent pitter-pattering of rain in the rest of the garden.  I theefore didn't do any more work on Norman Dawn because its at a rather critical stage where I could easily 'lose' what I have and the greyness outside could sway me into putting in too much storm and tempest.

So I spent the afternoon working on a few ideas/doodles/sketches. I have a piece I want to do which is based on my memory of walking through the hay field as a child.....and the hay coming up to my head. But obviously I would prefer to work on that in a few months time. I have a few other similar ideas based on childhood memories and nostalgia that I would like to try.

I also had a dabble at an idea of things in the wind (I may as well use the inspiration to hand a it was so stormy today!)....washing on the line, for example.  Its a theme I may try and do a series of similar pictures on.

7 March 2008

I have been working in my studio (a summerhouse at the bottom of the garden) on some new work. Its been quite difficult in there for the last few months becaue the days are so short and as colour is such a central focus of my work that curtails what I can do. Even with the best artificial light there are shadows etc which can upset things. Also, from the point of view of photographing work minus flash (flash just bleaches everything in the centre) its been hard to get opportunities.

Anyway, enough of the excuses. I finished 'Little Red Riding Hood' last month which is quite a wide landscape and will be difficult for me to produce as a print ....I may sell as an original or its a case of going to The Digital Paintbrush to get a set of prints done because they would be outside the scope of my equipment. Still I am pleased with it even though I can't seem to settle on a title.

I am now concentrating on working on 'Norman Dawn'. I did a sketch a few months ago and now I am working it up ....

I have chosen Board with oil and pastel to create a grainy, tapestry feel....but I will have to go carefully. Showing figures from the rear sounds easier in theory than having them face on...but actually its just another set of problems. The opposite problems in more ways than one. Because one has to imply emotion or attitude from very little. Just a shadow here and there can change the assumptions of the viewer.
