I love the feeling of space and freedom to be found in hilly places. Oil pastels are ideal tools for working outdoors and sketching with fluency. For finished work, especially larger pieces, I work over a ground of acrylic paint to give depth before applying my layers of pastel. Washes are applied by soaking pastels in white spirit before use.
